Through the Woods

She continued carefully along the twisted path. Not for lack of light or for fear of danger. Rather, the casual slow strides gave her thoughts time to wander this unknown place.

She let her mind embrace the trees. She let it feel twigs underfoot. She let it hear the ruffling of the leaves. She let it swim in the dark echoes of the forest, her imagination wrapped in a warm blanket of unknown magic, of things dark and beautiful.

Gracefully she moved further, deeper down the wandering path, holding her breath as she drank in the forest's sounds. The sounds. Oh how they drew their shapes through her mind. She watched the sounds crawl, creek, and crack. They were empty and dark. They were bold and full of color.

She exhaled hard and stood up straight. Her gaze followed down the path, drawn towards the forest's wild and calling center. A smile curled across her lips.
